Testimonials of the GRAADA 2021 Symposium

‘‘Living an active adult life’’

  • Past and present inclusion

Presented by Valérie Desroches, M. Ed.

Ms. Desroches is a remedial teacher and an active member of the autistic community in the media. She is also autistic and dyspraxic. This remedial teacher has experienced and still experiences many challenges in terms of inclusion. Despite everything, she managed to do her job. Battles between image and skills, jobs below potential, instability depending on the openness of employers and sometimes voluntary isolation can hide the unique potential and often extraordinary skills of autistic people. We can come out of this presentation with a real understanding of the challenges and better sense of adapting the inclusion of an autistic person.

  • Inclusion in workplace : testimony of a young adult, an employer and an integration agent

Presented by Laurent Labrecque, Bernard Gravel et Sophie Lévesque

Testimony from a young adult, an employer and an integration agent. You will witness a discussion between an employee, Laurent, his employer, Mr. Gravel and his integration agent, Sophie. This discussion will highlight the difficulties encountered during employment integration, but above all, the actions and attitudes embodied to enable its success. Laurent will share his recommendations and wishes so that his experience is accessible to younger autistic people seeking for work.
